Hiragana + Katakana trainer
Build kana recall, one focused drill at a time.

KanaKana is a lightweight practice app for learning Japanese kana through charts, audio, flashcards, quizzes, typing drills, and weak-kana review. No login, no account, no setup beyond opening the app.

Learn by scope
Start small with basic kana, then add dakuten, combinations, and Katakana loanword sounds when ready.
Practice with intent
Pick exactly which kana groups to drill before each session, so practice stays focused instead of random.
Review what matters
Mistakes and slow answers help identify weak kana for more targeted review.
Practice modes preview
Move from recognition to recall with the same kana in different formats.

How to use

A simple loop for learning without overloading yourself.

  1. 1
    Pick a script

Choose Hiragana first if you are starting from zero. Move to Katakana once the basic shapes feel familiar.

  2. 2
    Learn in small groups

Study one group at a time: main kana, dakuten, then combinations. Avoid mixing everything too early.

  3. 3
    Drill only what you selected

Before practice starts, choose the exact kana groups you want. Every selected kana appears once per round.

  4. 4
    Increase difficulty gradually

Use flashcards for first recall, quiz for recognition speed, and typing when you can answer without hints.

  5. 5
    Review weak kana

Come back to missed or slow kana until they feel instant instead of guessed.
